Thumbs Up!
Two thumbs up. Under my thumb. Twiddling your thumbs. The English language is full of idioms about thumbs. So what do they have to do with success in your life purpose?
Humans are the only living being with fully opposable thumbs. The thumb is the most physically powerful of our digits. We use our thumbs to shape and control our worlds. Without them we could not have become toolmakers.
Thumbs and Body Language
Gestures that feature the thumbs have long been associated with dominance and superiority. Persons in power will often pose for photos with their hands in their pockets having only the thumbs exposed to denote confidence.
On the flip side, hiding your thumbs in your pockets or elsewhere, is an indicator of insecurity. Think about how babies hold their thumbs, tucked into their fists. Anyone over the age of three who hides their thumbs like this is demonstrating discomfort or a lack of confidence.
Pointing at another person with a closed fist and outstretched thumb is considered dismissive and disrespectful, as is thumbing your nose at another.
The phrase, under my thumb, is clearly about control. Having your thumb on the scale, at one time a literal act designed to cheat, has come to signify having an advantage over another.
These days you don’t even have to use your actual hands to send signals. The thumbs up gesture of approval has become one of our most commonly used emojis. (I want to add a note here, that this and other gestures common to the western world may be considered offensive in other cultures.)
Thumbs and Life Purpose
In the world of fingerprint analysis having a high ranking print on your thumb is a boon. It shows a natural ability to turn ideas into reality, see projects through to completion, and generate measurable results.
On the flip side, having a low ranking fingerprint on your thumb can indicate you came into this lifetime to overcome feelings of failure, or a tendency towards self-sabotage.
It's not just fingerprints that have something to say about your thumbiness. If you push backwards on your thumb and it feels stiff and hard to move, you might be someone who likes to have things under control. If the tip of your thumb easily bends backwards, you might need to ask yourself, "Do I bend over backwards for others to the detriment of myself?"
These are just a few factors I consider about thumbs when I do a Hand Analysis Reading.
Tell me in the comments, when interacting with others, how often do you notice their thumbs?
