Cory Booker's Karmic Moment

Cory Booker held the floor in the senate, speaking for 25 hours and 5 minutes on the dangers to our democracy and to our constitution. He began his speech at 7 pm on March 31st and ended at 8:05 pm on April 1st, surpassing the record set by Strom Thurmond in 1957.

This was a fitting time for Senator Booker to take a stand. Neptune moved from Pisces to Aries, just one week after it conjoined his North Node at 29 degrees Pisces in his second house.

Natal Chart of Senator Cory Booker

Ruled by Venus, the second house is commonly associated with wealth and possessions, but it also shows our core values. Pisces on the 2nd house cusp indicates that compassion and generosity are likely high on Senator Booker's list of values. It's also indicative of a search for meaning beyond the material.

Pisces is also half of the Service Axis, along with its opposite sign Virgo, the sign of Booker's South Node. Senator Booker's South Node is in his 8th house, indicating this is not his first lifetime dealing with politics and power, and potentially the abuses associated with both.

We can see by looking at his chart that the emphasis is on that 8th house. All three of the planets situated there, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto, are retrograde, signifying a chance to do things over, this time with a different perspective than in previous lifetimes. Uranus and the Part of Fortune in Libra in particular, indicate in this life he's being tasked to work for fairness and justice.

Saturn in Aries in his 3rd house charges Booker with a karmic mission to harness the power of the word to stand up for his neighbors (or in this case his constituents).

    The Cosmic Catalysts

It's not surprising that all three transiting outer planets are acting as catalysts for Senator Booker's speech. In addition to the ruler of Booker's North Node, Neptune, having just moved into Aries, Pluto is at 3 degrees in humanitarian Aquarius, conjunct his Ascendant, just inside his first house.

Senator Booker also has transiting Uranus sitting directly on his Mercury. His Mercury is in Taurus, conjunct his IC in the 4th house, the marker of a gifted storyteller. Unlike previous Senators who spoke for great lengths, Booker did not read from the works of Shakespeare, Doctor Seuss, or Mario Puzo, author of the Godfather. His record breaking speech focused on the themes of this administration's economic chaos, the slashing of programs for the country's most vulnerable, the influence of billionaires on policy, and on the growing fears of regular Americans.

    A Karmic Opportunity

It's important to note that this past January, Senator Booker had a Nodal Return. That's when the Moon's North and South Nodes return to the degree and sign they were in at the time of birth. The Nodes are karmic points. In short, the South Node represents past life patterns, the North Node is what you are needing to develop in this lifetime to balance those patterns.

A Nodal Return is an opportunity to resolve past life karma. It's also a chance to make big life shifts or choose to move in a new direction.

Throughout his speech Senator Booker repeated, “Where does the Constitution live? On paper or in our hearts?” and “It’s not left or right, it’s right or wrong.”

He also joked “I have the floor. So much power, it’s going to my head!” While he may have made this remark in jest, one can't help but wonder if on some level he was remembering the past lives indicated by his South Node in the 8th house of power and control.

The 8th house is also the place of profound transformation. Considering the courage and conviction of Senator Booker's words, I'd say he embraced the Karmic moment.
