The Wisdom of The Dalai Lama

His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama will celebrate his 90th birthday on Sunday, July 6th. Born in 1935, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama at the tender age of 2.

Tradition stipulates that a new Dalai Lama is chosen only after the death of the previous one. The search is guided by clues set out by the previous Dalai Lama before his death combined with mystical visions and astrology.

    The Astrology of Wisdom

While I certainly can't speak to the astrology that designated the boy known as Lhamo Dhondup to be the 14th Dalai Lama, I can comment on what I see as strong indicators of his legacy preaching compassion and peace.

Mercury in the 12th house indicates the importance of letting intellect follow intuition. Mastery of this ordering of the mind leads to recognition as a wise and profound teacher.

At the same time, the Moon and Neptune are conjunct in the 3rd house, another indicator of a solidly intuitive lens through which to view the world. The Dalai Lama's teachings on compassion and the importance of finding peace, both inner and outer, can be attributed to this pairing.

And I would be remiss if I didn't point out that both his Sun and his Ascendant are in Cancer. His Sun also make a grand trine with Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter in Scorpio. With all that water it's no surprise that he leads from a place of intuition, empathy and compassion.

    The Wisdom In His Hands

If what's in his chart isn't enough to convince you of the intuitive wisdom of the Dalai Lama, more proof exists in his hands. On the right is a lithograph of the Dalai Lama's right palm print, on the left we see the man himself. In both images it's easy to see that his head line, the lower horizontal crease, has a deep curve, ending almost at his wrist.

This particular style of head line is one of the Gift Markings that indicate a Sacred Contract, in this case the gift of inner wisdom and deep intuitive knowing. Known as the Line of Persephone, it also denotes the ability to be a guide for lost souls, with the goal of helping those souls find peace, especially after facing emotional hardships. This level of deep wisdom can only be gained after lifetimes of deep shadow work and spiritual seeking.

The planet does not need more successful people. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, story tellers, and lovers of all kind. — Dalai Lama
